Actress and socialite Madame de Florian fled Paris during World War II, leaving all her possessions behind. There, in her apartment, they remained untouched for more than 70 years.
The apartment was only discovered in 2010 when Madame de Florian died in the South of France (at the age of 91). The accidental Paris time-capsule held treasures such as hair brushes, papers, furniture, Persian rugs, and an original Disney Mickey Mouse doll. Quite possibly the most precious item discovered was a painting of Madame de Florian’s grandmother Marthe, who was the muse of artist Giovanni Boldini. Attached to the painting was a love note from Boldini. The painting has since been sold for €2.1 million.
Heaven for any antique collector!
