Looking in: Marie Kondo’s home in Tokyo.


I initially read Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up, just to see what all the fuss was about. And I almost tossed it aside after the first few pages, but sometime before the first chapter ended, she won me over. I finished the book in one sitting and immediately started to “tidy”, our already tidy – (or so I thought!) apartment. Several donation bags later, I not only felt like an immense weight had been lifted, but I had this unstoppable energy to continue tidying.. and I’ve been doing so ever since.

While reading the book, I couldn’t help but wonder what Kondo’s apartment looked like. Because of her intense belief that anything that doesn’t bring you joy should go, I pictured it almost sterile, and therefore unwelcoming. Instead, I found it to be quite charming..

When I think about my dream home, the first that comes to mind is having a dedicated space for a library. Nothing is more inspiring to me than being surrounded by words that have some way or another shaped my thoughts, feelings and beliefs. Imagine a library large enough to house a ladder! Traditional Details.




My love for French design has well been documented on this blog, specifically details such as: herringbone floors, French windows and molding. In my opinion, you can never have too much  molding! Chair rails, wall frames, wainscot – these details, whether intricate or simple, lend any space a traditional yet masterful feel.
